Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT)

Louisville · January

Last verified: . See something out of date? Tell us.

Summary

Founded in 1947, Kentucky's oldest regular-season high school basketball tournament. Run as Louisville's biggest in-season showcase, with both boys' and girls' brackets. Has occasionally been delayed by weather (snow pushed the boys' bracket back in recent years).

What makes this tournament distinct

Nearly 80 years of continuous Louisville basketball tradition. Pre-Sweet 16 measuring stick for the city's top programs.

Who it fits

Best for: Louisville-area programs (Trinity, St. Xavier, Male, Manual, Eastern, Ballard, etc.) using the LIT as a January resume-builder ahead of regional play.

Tradeoffs: Field is overwhelmingly Louisville — not a national draw. Multi-venue setup means following one team requires moving around the city.
