Summary

Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, two-day final weekend. The Open Division boys final is the most loaded state title game in the country most years — you have to win your CIF section first, and the Open bracket pulls eight teams from those section champs. Eastvale Roosevelt won the 2025 Open over Archbishop Riordan; Brayden Burries dropped 44 in the final.

What makes this tournament distinct

Open Division ignores classification — it's the eight best teams in California regardless of school size. NBA arena venue. Most competitive state championship in the country at the top end.

Who it fits

Best for: California programs that have already won their CIF section. Realistically: Mater Dei, Sierra Canyon, Harvard-Westlake, Roosevelt, Riordan, Mission Bay, St. Joseph type teams.

Tradeoffs: Closed to non-California teams. Path is brutal — section playoffs, then a regional bracket, then the state final. Mid-March timing means seniors are already locked into recruiting decisions.
